Giving....
It IS thankgiving month - and the month before Christmas - this always puts me in a giving mood. We don't have too much extra in the budget as overtime is scarce and we are JUST able to make bills - but we ARE paying, and on time - so it was time to start giving.
We started close to home - this one was kinda easy - a family member had been w/out a dryer for quite some time. When talking to her, the likelihood of it getting fixed sounded slim. I saw one on sale at our local Menards and offered the use of our Menards card to purchase it. We made arrangments and the deal was signed, sealed and delivered. It'll add to our monthly bill, but with no interest for 6 months and the fact that it'll be paid off in Feb by the latest....well....it wasn't a hard offer to make.
While we were at Menards....we had to buy a new snowblower. The one we had was actually the one that my grandfather had bought - like, 15 years ago. We also debated and decided to purchase a small infrared heater. We've heard good things about them and our family room is always much colder than the other rooms due to the HUGE custom-built patio door - which is great for the other seasons, but not for winter. Anyways...it seems to be working just fine and all of my research says that our bills should remain close to normal....we will see!
Second was a good friend that lives a state away. She is disabled and therefore unable to work. She has a 10 and 3 yo boy. Hubby just got laid off and was denied benefits for the first month - no food stamps....seeing as how she has a disability, even public transportation is a no-go for her - so things are pretty tough. They have started receiving unemployment, but that's barely cutting it and with the month of no pay - they have to play catch-up too. So....we are sponsoring them for Christmas. Again, a little out of pocket for us (even though we're making some of the gifts and some are new and some are gently used....but we also have shipping costs that will be incurred.
We usually like to pick a name off of an angel tree too....

Happy dance....HAPPY DANCE!!
I. AM. THRILLED!!!!
I am sooo happy.....about 2 months ago, hubs and I applied for new (whole) life insurance. At that time - the lady that came and drew blood brought her own scale...which is NOT calibrated, gets jostled around, etc. She weighed me @ 260 - when I had JUST weighed myself that morning at 253 (consistantly 253-255 those days). Fine. Whatever.
UNTIL....my insurance agent said that BECAUSE of my weight my life insurance would be $30 MORE per month - serious??? I was TICKED. However, there's always a way out. This one was: loose the weight and get a Dr.'s note. At less than 247, I get $15 off per month....at less than 236, another $15. Yep - money is a motivator people!! You will NOT charge me extra - not when all my blood counts are completely normal and you are totally basing this on my weight.
So....10/10 I went to see my doc (weight: 248)....she set me up with a heart rate monitor (which I LOVE!!!) and we made a plan of attack. Exercise, eating....etc. Tomorrow: I go see a nutritionist who will help with my eating - but with MY foods...not some pre-packed crud!
But, I digress...today I went in for my titers for school - and asked to hop on the scale (yes, I ASKED!!) - I am down to 243!!!! YAY ME!!!!!
Also - today I hit my highest heart rate EVER at 168 bpm and burned 305 cal in 30 minutes.....skinny jeans, here I come, lol!!!
